Notes on items checked by Amicus Validator.
This should be the first tag on your page and tells your browser what type of the document is. In HTML5 a short tag like <!DOCTYPE html> is sufficient, but in earlier versions of HTML it may look like:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">.
It is Required and must be the first Tag on the page, however on a PHP page you may have something like:
<?php session_start();?> above it. This is not a problem as the PHP enegine will process the session_start() and will not send anything for this line to the browser, so the DOCTYPE will be the first line on the page sent to the browser. The DOCTYPE is NOT case sensitive so: <!DocType html>, <!doctype html> and <!DOCTYPE html> etc. are acceptable.
There should be ONLY one of each of the above on each page and they should appear in the order shown above after the <!DOCTYPE html> tag. They should also only contain the information relative to each section and each section starts with the for example: <head> the content for the head section... </head> and
<body> the content for the head section... </body> etc.
These are headings for the page or sections. There should always be a Descriptive <h1> tag on the page and Google and other Search Engines will use this in search results. Normally there should be ONLY 1 <h1> tag on a page but 2 or 3 won't hurt your page's SEO/ADA.
<h2> to <h4> are NOT required but will help your page's as regards SEO.You can also use <h5> and <h6> although these are rarely used.
These will appear in the <body> .. </body> area.
This is required for good SEO/ADA and should be a good title for your page, just Home, About, Contact etc. are NOT good Titles. Titles should ideally be between 50 and 60 characters and there should be ONLY one on each page. A good title would be something like: <title>Welcome to Sanders Primary School Wolverhampton | Home</title>
These will appear in the <head>..</head> area.
This is a description of your site page and ideally should be between 150 and 160 characters. Best not to use any special characters in the description just plain text and punctuation something like: <meta name="description" content="Sanders Church of England Primary School in Wolverhampton, Boys and Girls from 5yrs to 11yrs, Our School Aims and Vision, and how we started | Home Page">. They can be shorter but should be a good description of the page content. There should be ONLY 1 description meta tag per page.
These will appear in the <head>..</head> area.
Although Google may not use keywords when the scrape your pages, other bots do so it is important to have them to get in other search engines. They should be words associated with your page and should be between 150 and 255 characters for best effect.
These will appear in the <head>..</head> area.
This tells the browser what language your page's text is in and is added to the <html> tag near the top of the page.
e.g. for British English then it would look like <html lang="en-gb"> whilst American English would be : <html lang="en-us">.
Acceptable languages can be found here: https://accessibility.psu.edu/foreignlanguages/langtaghtml/
The language attribute is added to the <html> tag.
This tells the browser what character set your page uses. UTF-8 is the most common used but others can be used. This Must be on your page.
Other character sets could be: UTF-16, UTF-32, Windows-1252, iso-8859-1 and others but UTF-8 isusually the best choice.
These will appear in the .. area.
Amicus Validator will check how many Mobirise References there are on your page before and after running Mobiclean PRO.
If you have a Mobirise Formoid Form on your page you will have 1 Mobirise reference on your page after Mobiclean Pro processing which is in the link on where to submit the form to, otherwise the form won't submit. It will look something like:
<form action="https://mobirise.eu/" method="POST" class="mbr-form form-with-styler" data-form-title="Form Name"></form>
Each page should have a canonical tag and this will considerably improve your SEO.
This should be in the <head>..</head> area and close to the top of the page.
All pages (including the canonical page) should contain a canonical tag to prevent any possible duplication.
Even if there are no other versions of a page, then that page should still include a canonical tag that links to itself.
Use a canonical tag and a rel=”alternate” tag to signal that a mobile version and a desktop version of the same page should be treated as one entity in search results. Google explains more about this in the Google Developers Mobile Guide.
Using relative URLs in canonical tags can mean that Google will ignore them. As Google explain in their 5 common mistakes with rel=canonical post, using a relative URL in a canonical tag – for example example.com/cupcake.html – implies that the page you want to be indexed in search results is https://example.com/example.com/cupcake.html, which doesn’t make sense.
Remember that Google sees the HTTP/HTTPS and www/non-www version of a URL as a separate page.
Al Form declarations and the fields on a form MUST have a name. Amicus Validator will identify all forms and form Input, form textarea, form selects etc. without a name tag.
It will also identify Form Fields that do NOT have a placeholder.
A form text area should look something like:
<textarea name="message" placeholder="Message" class="form-control" id="message-text03"></textarea>
File names should not have spaces in them, some servers and some older browsers have issues with spaces in file names. Google prefers hyphens (-) instead of spaces but NOT underscores (_). So something like below is best:
https://my-home-patio.html if you can also include your site name this too will help SEO like:
https://my-home-patio-johns-house-com.html
